Voltron: Defender Of The Universe (2010)

Based on the popular 1980s Japanese animated TV series, comic books and toy line. The new take is described as a post-apocalyptic tale of survival set in New York City and Mexico.

In the animated series, five Galaxy Alliance pilots control vehicles shaped like lions that combine and form the massive sword-wielding Voltron robot in order to battle an evil menace.

More ‘Eighties nostalgia – after all, Transformers made big bucks, didn’t it? This time in the guise of an obscure anime TV show with . . . you guessed it, big robots. Director Max Makowski (Queer Eye for the Straight Guy) is now attached and rumor has it that it will be a medium budget affair like 300.

(Considering that this is being distributed by 20th Century Fox, does anyone want to bet that it is going to be sort of thing that should have gone straight instead like other Fox genre offerings such as Babylon A.D., Eragon and that dull new X-Files movie . . .)
