Star Trek (2009)

Lost creators-writers-producers J.J. Abrams, Damon Lindelof and Bryan Burk are bringing an 11th instalment of the popular Star Trek franchise to the big screen. Burk, Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci will executive produce.

After a gazillion Star Trek movies and TV shows (not to mention the shows which unashamedly stole from Trek, such as Babylon 5 and StarGate- Atlantis) the question remains: will Lost supremo J.J. Abrams have anything new to add to Gene Roddenberry’s universe? Time will tell, but considering what Abrams brought to the Mission: Impossible franchise with number III in that franchise, we’re not all that excited here.

Still, details of the upcoming Trek movie are far in-between. It would seem that the movie is going to be a complete reboot of the franchise, going back to the original 1960s television shows with “new” actors such as Zachary Quinto (psycho bad guy Sylar from Heroes) playing old, familiar characters such as Spock. (No news as yet who is going to be James T., Bones, Sulu, etc.) Leonard Nimoy is back however, which means that he’d probably play an older Spock and that the story would be told in flashback mode, chronicling how Spock and Kirk met and their very first adventure together.
